I'm not sure that I'm familiar with the story, but the way this is drawn and the over all tone makes me think of an Aesop's Fable. I really like the cute little hair curly on the top mouse, also. 
I like the way that this goes down, but not out wide, as well, which would be kinda distracting with all the other things that would have to be going on in it.
